You either have or will have spent an enormous amount of time in meetings. In over forty-five years of active work life, counting schools, seminars and general office meetings, I have attended meetings for the equivalent of a year or more! This was mostly a waste of time insofar as meeting objectives posted on the agenda. It took me a while to realize that all meetings probably do serve some purpose, however. This seemingly colossus waste of time prompted me write an essay a few years ago entitled, "The Anatomy of a Meeting". To get started, I first asked myself the question; "Why in the world do so many people 'sit in' on meetings when they don't really need to do so " And, how can they profit from those that they must attend It was then that I began to understand the real (sometimes subliminal) reasons people go to meetings.
